The company I work for is in critical need for robust business intelligence reporting software. I was assigned the task to find a set of BI tools that not only allowed our company to quantify various data sources into actionable data but also to generate the information into graphical data using data visualization software. Through out my research process, I looked into both traditional BI systems and also open source business intelligence software. Both carry huge amounts of value but open source is much more dynamic and flexible – exactly what our company currently needs. While browsing the internet, I came across a company called Actuate. On their website I also noticed that they have an entire section dedicated to performance management, which is another area we will be focusing on in the near future. I found the information about their product line very credible and decided to download the trial version of their product. I am currently evaluating the trial version by creating test reports. I plan on communicating my findings to our company in after some further evaluating other competitors in the field as well.
